The Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program is the cornerstone of the California assessment system. The STAR Program is designed primarily to help measure how well students are achieving the California academic standards in English-language arts, mathematics, history-social science, and science. All students in grades two through eleven must participate in the STAR Program testing each spring, including students with disabilities and English learners.
