The support services attempts to provide opportunities for all students to attain their optimal personal, academic, social and career goals. The entire staff strives to ensures that all students are challenged to experience, discover and succeed in learning a rich academic curriculum and are involved in providing a positive learning environment for students, while support services ensures that every student is provided with the assistance to be successful.
All students in a Junior High learning environment benefit from personal, academic, and career counseling with a special focus on the needs at risk students. At William Moreno Jr. High, our at-risk student community struggle with migrant issues, learning, disabilities, gang pressures, substance abuse, and limited English speaking challenges. During a middle-school experience, many students need support in coping with physical, social, and family conflicts as well as the transition form elementary to high school. William Moreno Jr. High continues to innovate and serve the increasing numbers of students through individual and group counseling, family interventions, articulating with different development levels and technological innovations.
William Moreno Jr. High Counseling Department is able to intervene at each grade levels and assist students in emotional and academic maturation. Through the use of individual, group, and family counseling, consultation with teachers and significant others, a team approach is used for academic growth and an increase in student responsibility and performance. William Moreno staff believes that supportive services (tutoring) and innovation are used to meet the needs of ALL students and most importantly those of at risk students. All students can learn and improve, with the support of bilingual counseling in a culturally sensitive manner. William Moreno Jr. High’s staff believes that students can excel in spite of the barriers of language, economic deprivation, cultural transition, and family disruption.
