The Human Resources department has set as its priority to have a fully credentialed teacher in every classroom who meets the standard of “Highly Qualified” under No Child Left Behind. We are seeking well prepared candidates who are motivated, innovative and passionate about the teaching profession. The Calexico Unified School District accepts applications throughout the year for all positions requiring a credential. Specialized areas such as mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, English and special education are especially encouraged. How do I apply for a position with the Calexico Unified School District? Begin by viewing the posted openings under Career Opportunities. Once you have identified a position that interests you and for which you are qualified, you will need to complete an online application. Make sure that your application is complete, that you have attached your résumé, transcripts, copy of credential, and letters of reference (Minimum 3). Your application will not be considered unless it is complete. Make sure that you indicate on your application that you wish to apply directly to the Calexico Unified School District.
How will I know if my application is received? Once your completed application is received, the CUSD will send you an acknowledgement informing you that your application has been received and has been included in the candidate pool.
Your completed application will be entered into our data base and will be grouped by subject area or level. When a vacancy for which you are qualified occurs, the applications will be screened by a committee of administrators who will select the candidates to be interviewed.
Once your application has been reviewed and recommended for an interview, you will be called for an interview. Interviews are generally held in Calexico. You will be interviewed by a panel of administrators who will then make recommendations to the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources. The HR Department will then conduct an analysis of transcripts, CBEST Test results, prior experience (if applicable), credential verification and will then contact your references.
How will I know if I’ve been selected for a position? If you are the recommended candidate and you meet the requirements for the position, we will contact you by telephone to inform you that the CUSD is prepared to offer you a position. When you accept it, we will schedule you for an appointment to come to the HR Department to sign an “Offer of Employment” (contract) and to schedule you to be fingerprinted. Fingerprinting is done at the Imperial County Office of Education in El Centro. It is at this point that we place you on the appropriate step of the certificated salary schedule.

The Calexico Unified School District has implemented the Substitute Employee Management System (SEMS) which assigns/monitors substitute assignments. This system calls out substitute teachers the day before the assignment between the hours of 5:00 p.m. & 10:00 p.m. Substitutes are called in a random order. It will also call out the morning of the assignments between the hours of 6:00 a.m. & 8:00 a.m. Substitutes will be given the option of either accepting or declining the jobs offered. Substitutes may also use the via Internet feature to search for jobs, decline assignments, change profile, etc. Teachers may also use this feature to report absences, request specific substitutes, etc. The website address is https://sems.calexico.k12.ca.us. NOTE: In order to access this system you must already be on our substitute teachers’ list and have been given a Special I.D. number and PIN.
